Dear Parents,
Your child is currently taking Computer Technology for one semester. In this class students will be learning several programs including: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access. Students also will be learning about the parts of the computer and work on building their keyboarding skills. As time allows we will also work on presentation programs.
Keyboarding
Students will learn correct keyboarding techniques while developing keying speed and accuracy. Students will begin each day with 5 – 10 minutes of keyboarding (the first few weeks students will spend a little more time).
Word Processing (Google Docs)
Students will learn to use formatting, editing tools and helpful features of Google Docs.
Spreadsheet (Google Sheets and Excel)
Students will be able to open, create, enter, format and edit spreadsheet data, create and use functions and formulas and develop charts and graphs using spreadsheet data.
Database (Access)
Using Microsoft Access, students will learn how to organize data in a database and learn how to perform queries to locate information.
Digital Citizenship
Topics covered will include: internet safety, effective searching, and copy right laws.
Coding
Students will use scratch and a makey makey device to create a musical instrument and perform a song.
Students will be graded on:
Keyboarding participation and improvement 10%
Assignments 70%
Quizzes 20%
If a student is absent, they will need to make arrangements with me to make up missed assignments.
We are looking forward to working with your child.
